Pancake day, is Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Originally on Shrove Tuesday you used up all the ingredients you had left in the larder that you weren't allowed to eat during Lent - the 40 days running up to Easter. But for most of us the best bit about pancake day is just the cooking, tossing and of course the eating of them.
To toss a pancake successfully takes a certain skill. A combination of the perfect pancake batter and good hand flipping technique is important.
We've all had those experiences where half the pancake is stuck to the pan while the other half is stuck to the ceiling. Its best to practice - preferably alone so you can dissolve into fits of laughter while trying.
